WEEKLY SNEAK PEEK
Women’s Soccer Awaits First Opponent in Big West Postseason
- Cal Poly women’s soccer clinched a spot in the six-team Big West tournament and took over first place in the conference regular season standings with a 1-0 home victory over UC Riverside this past Thursday. Then on Sunday, the Mustangs closed out the regular season with a 1-1 draw at home against CSUN to remain in first in the Big West table.
- The Mustangs now wait to see who they will face in their opening match in the Big West Championship. al Poly played its final regular season match on Sunday, while the other 10 teams in the Big West still have one match to play on Thursday. CSUN and UC Santa Barbara are currently tied for second place in the Big West and trail Cal Poly by just 2 points. With victories on Thursday, both the Matadors and Gauchos could jump in front of the Mustangs in the standings, while draws or losses by both teams would allow Cal Poly to stay in first and earn them the right to host the semifinals and championship match in the Big West Championship.
- Regardless of Thursday’s results, Cal Poly can finish no lower than third in the Big West regular season standings as they own the head-to-head tiebreaker with Cal State Fullerton, who is sitting in fourth place with 17 points.
- The top two teams in the regular season standings receive a bye from the opening round of the tournament, while the third and fourth place teams would host Big West Championship First Round matches on this Sunday, Nov. 2.
- Stay tuned to GoPoly.com and follow Cal Poly women’s soccer on Instagram (@calpolysoccer) and X/Twitter (@CPWomensSoccer) for an update on who the Mustangs will face in the conference tournament.
Wrestling Hosts No. 22 Purdue Saturday in Season Opener
- The Cal Poly wrestling program gets its 2025-26 campaign underway this Saturday at 6 p.m. when they host Purdue inside Mott Athletics Center.

- Last year, the Mustangs sent four wrestlers to NCAA Championships for the fourth straight year — just the second time in program history the Mustangs have accomplished that feat and the first time since qualifying at least five from 2003 to 2007. Zeth Romney shined on the national stage in Philadelphia, capturing third at 133 pounds to earn All-American honors and become the highest finisher in program history in that weight class at NCAAs. The 2024-25 Pac-12 Wrestler of the Year finished last season with an impressive 19-5 record, recording 13 victories over ranked opponents.
- Romney, along with NCAA qualifiers Trevor Tinker and Koda Holeman, are among 18 returners for the Mustangs this season. Romney is wrestling at 141 pounds this season and is ranked fourth nationally by InterMat entering Saturday’s dual.

- On defense, Cal Poly boasts the top two tacklers in the Big Sky in linebackers Mikey D’Amato and Kenny Olson. Both are also top 11 in the country in that category.
- Offensively, wide receiver Michael Briscoe leads the Big Sky and is sixth in the FCS in receiving touchdowns.
Cross Country Eyes History in Honolulu
- One of the most dominant programs in recent Big West history, Cal Poly cross country travels to Queen Kapi'olani Regional Park in Hawai’i for the Big West Championships this Friday looking to achieve a feat no other team has ever accomplished.
- Since the Big West began sponsoring both sports in 1983, no team in the history of the conference has ever swept the men’s and women’s cross country team titles four consecutive seasons. The three-time defending Big West Champions have a chance to do just that this week.
- Action from Honolulu gets underway at 10:30 a.m. PDT Friday with the men’s 8K. The women’s 6K will follow at 11:30 a.m. PDT. Live results for the meet are available HERE. There is no livestream.
- Graduate student Michael Chambers and redshirt seniors Spencer Pickren and Bryce Kueker are expected to lead the way for the Cal Poly men, while junior Kelli Gaffney and sophomores Nikki Bridges and Renae Searls will lead the charge for the women.

- Cal Poly has one fall event remaining: a hidden dual at the prestigious Jack Kramer Club in Palos Verdes, Calif., from October 31 through November 2.
Men's Soccer Wraps Regular Season Saturday
