9/7/2024 3:13:00 PM | Women's Volleyball
TROY, Ala. – Senior Tommi Stockham led the Cal Poly volleyball program with 13 kills and sophomore middle blocker Breklyn Pulling added 12 Saturday afternoon as the Mustangs completed action at the Plainsman Invitational with a 26-24, 26-24, 25-23 sweep of co-host Troy inside Trojan Arena.
Junior setter Emme Bullis added 35 assists and freshman middle blocker Chloe LeLuge matched a career best with nine kills for Cal Poly (3-3), which limited Troy (2-3) to a .167 hitting mark during a match where neither side led by more than four points at any stretch.
Pulling contributed five of her 12 kills during the opening set. The Mustangs hit a match best .367 in set No. 1, but trailed, 23-19, before Pulling produced kills either side of a Troy attacking error. A Troy kill next handed the hosts a 24-22 advantage before a serving error and an ace from Mustang freshman outside hitter Kendall Beshear (above) drew the set level. Another Troy attack error and a Stockham kill then handed the set to Cal Poly.
Set No. 2 featured 13 tied scorelines, the last of which was broken at 24-24 with a Stockham kill. Mustang sophomore defensive specialist Ella Scott then finished off the set win with one of her two serving aces.
Cal Poly held Troy to a .135 hitting mark during the third set, grabbing the last of five lead changes midway through and stretching the advantage to 18-14 with successive Trojan hitting errors. Troy closed its deficit to one point six times down the stretch before Pulling completed the set and match with a kill.
Cal Poly resumes action at the Sept. 12-13 UNLV Tournament, opening action against the host Rebels on Thursday, Sept. 12 at 6 p.m.
