
Szeto Rallies to Win Lyon Links College Invitational

DUBLIN, Ireland — Cal Poly senior men’s golfer Baron Szeto came back from a three shot deficit heading into the final round of the Lyon Links College Invitational with an incredible final round to win the tournament via a playoff.
Szeto, who headed into Friday’s final round at Royal Dublin in sixth place at four under par, shot a final round five under 67 to climb up into a tie for first at nine under with Maynooth University’s Ryan Griffin to force a playoff.
After both players tied on the first playoff hole, Szeto beat him out on the second playoff hole to win the tournament. The win marked the first Mustang to win a tournament since Szeto split the 2023 individual title at the Big West Championship. Szeto carded rounds of 69, 71, and 67 at the par 72 course to win it.
As a team, Cal Poly finished tied for third with Maynooth at eight under par. Wake Forest won the tournament with Elon coming in second.
Other individual Mustang finishes included sophomore Leo Metzger placing tied for eighth at three under. Freshman Nolan Kuszyk ended tied for 15th at two over while sophomore Reese Sato tied for 20th at four over.
Cal Poly will enjoy a bit of a break before their next tournament which will take place Oct. 7 and 8 at the Meadow Club in Fairfax, Calif. hosted by Cal.
