Yoo Finishes Top 12 as Mustangs Place Eighth at Opening Tournament of Season

ALBUQUERQUE — Cal Poly sophomore women's golfer Sarah Yoo got off to a strong start to begin the 2024-25 season, finishing tied for 12th to lead Cal Poly at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational in New Mexico as the Mustangs placed eighth out of 15 teams.
Yoo, an All-Big West honoree as a freshman last season, carded rounds of 76, 71, and 72 to finish three over par as she climbed up into 12th. She had 34 pars and nine birdies in the three rounds at par 72 UNM Championship Course.
Freshman Nicole Koong had an impressive collegiate debut as she finished tied for 25th at seven over par. She had rounds of 75, 75, and 73 as she led the Mustangs and was tied for second in the entire tournament field in pars with 40.
Senior Jensen Jalufka, Cal Poly's top golfer last season, finished the tournament tied for 32nd at six over par (75, 72, 78).
Senior Kamille Dimayuga finished tied for 50th at 13 over par while freshman Sara Torres was 55th at 14 over par in her first collegiate tournament.
The Mustangs shot 893 as a team, good for 29 over par. They were one shot back of Northern Arizona and four shots back of sixth place BYU.
Next up for Cal Poly is the Leadership & Golf Invitational hosted by the University of Washington at Chambers Bay Golf Course Sept. 16-17.
