SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Cal Poly women's soccer program opens its 2024 preseason training camp at 8 a.m. Tuesday.
This fall, the Mustangs are hoping to build off yet another historic season and bring back plenty of experience to accomplish just that. Cal Poly returns 26 letterwinners, 10 starters and 90 percent of its goal production from last year’s team that advanced to the program’s ninth Big West Championship match, tied for the most all-time in conference history. In 2023, the team also set a program record for players to record a point in a season (21), matched a 27-year-old program record for goal scorers in a season (15) and for the first time in program history finished with six or more wins in Big West play for the third straight season.
The Mustangs will get four days of training before taking the pitch at Mustang Memorial Field at Spanos Stadium at 7 p.m. this Saturday to host their annual Green vs. White intrasquad scrimmage. Cal Poly then continues its preseason prep at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10, when the team hosts an exhibition match against Trinity Western University of Langley, British Columbia. The Mustangs officially kick-off their 2024 campaign on Thursday, Aug. 15, at 7 p.m. at Spanos Stadium when the team hosts Portland. The contest is part of a three-match homestand to open the season for Cal Poly.

Upcoming Games
Season tickets for the 2024 Cal Poly women's soccer season are available now and single-game tickets go on sale Thursday at 10 a.m.
Last year, Cal Poly saw seven players earn All-Big West honors, the program’s most in a season since 2014, and all of them are back this fall — senior defender Emma Brown (Big West Defensive Player of the Year, All-Big West First Team), senior forward Kate Reedy (All-Big West Second Team), senior goalkeeper Mackenzie Samuel (All-Big West Second Team), junior defender Camryn Penn, redshirt sophomore midfielder Sophia Minnite (Big West All-Freshman Team), sophomore forward Annika Smith (All-Big West Second Team, Big West All-Freshman Team) and sophomore midfielder Sophia Moness (Big West All-Freshman Team).
Brown, the fifth player in program history to be named Big West Defensive Player of the Year, received United Soccer Coaches All-West Region Second Team praise as well, becoming just the fourth player in Cal Poly’s history to earn three United Soccer Coaches All-West Region selections. Entering the 2024 season, Brown has started in 44 consecutive matches and 57 of the 60 matches she has appeared in during her career. Smith is looking to build off a sensational freshman campaign that saw her bury the eighth hat trick in program history and become the first Mustang since 2013 to be named to an All-Big West Team and the conference's All-Freshman Team in the same season.
The experienced-laden Mustangs are led by 12 seniors this fall, including McKenna Carbon and Kate Reedy — who are both back for a fifth year with the team after having the 2020 season taken away due to COVID-19 — and Whitney Wiley, a graduate student who has one season of eligibility left after medically redshirting during her fall 2021 season at New Hampshire.
Cal Poly’s two starting center backs — Brown and senior Aynsley Conner — and Carbon will serve as the team’s three captains this fall.
HUGE congrats to the heart of our defense — Emma Brown — on being crowned the Big West Defensive Player of the Year ????
