Angela Rock Named AVCA National Assistant Coach of the Year

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Beach volleyball assistant coach Angela Rock made Cal Poly history by receiving AVCA Collegiate Beach Assistant Coach of the Year. Rock is the first Mustang coach to be given this honor.
Rock, who just finished her first season at Cal Poly, assisted the Mustangs with 16 more wins this season than last year. She helped the Mustangs with their 31-7 record this season, including a 16-match winning streak. Heading into the NCAA tournament, the Mustangs were 29-6. The wins for them set a program record.
Cal Poly had a record four players earn AVCA All-American honors. The school's AVCA Poll ranking reached No. 4, which tied the school's highest-ever ranking.
Each of the five starting pairs earned All-Big West honors, and Cal Poly players won the conference Pair of the Year and Freshman of the Year awards.
Cal Poly was announced as the No. 5 seed going into the NCAA tournament, the highest seed in program history.
The Mustangs started the tournament with a win over No. 12 Arizona State in the first round. They then beat No. 4 Florida State in the quarterfinals to advance to the program's first ever Final Four appearance.
