Mustangs Improve to Eighth Place after Two Rounds at The Lamkin

THE LAMKIN TEAM AND INDIVIDUAL LEADERBOARD
CHULA VISTA – With junior Baron Szeto (above) tied for fifth place overall and junior Parker Mapes tied for 13th, the Cal Poly men's golf program improved from 14th place after Monday morning's opening round at The Lamkin to eighth following the afternoon second round.
Playing 36 holes Monday on the 7,033-yard, par-72 San Diego Country Club, Szeto fired successive three-under 69s for a six-under 138. He enters Tuesday's final round just three shots behind leader Craig Ronne of San Diego in the 95-player field.
Mapes, meanwhile, enjoyed a three-under 69 during the opening round before going one under in the afternoon. He sits just two shots behind Szeto with a four-under 140.
Junior Jackson Parrish (73-74) is in 63rd with a three-over 147 while freshman Louis Pilod (77-71) is a shot behind in 68th following a four-over 147. Graduate student Ben Quick (78-79) finished 13 over with a two-round 157.
Playing as an independent, senior Joey Zambri is in 38th at an even-par 144 with a one-over 73 in the morning and one-under 71 in the afternoon.
As a team, Cal Poly followed an even-par 288 in the morning with a three-under 285 in the afternoon. With a two-round 573, Cal Poly is tied with Wyoming for eighth place. Colorado and Fresno State lead the 16-team field with 18-under 558s.
