
Mustang Beach Volleyball Hosts 4 Opponents This Weekend to Open Home Slate

MATCH SCHEDULE
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — After spending the first three weeks of its season on the road, the Cal Poly beach volleyball program returns to the sand this weekend to host its first matches of the year at the Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex.
The Mustangs welcome North Florida, Pacific, Santa Clara and UC Davis to San Luis Obispo for matches this Saturday and Sunday. All five teams will play each other once during the two-day event.
Cal Poly (10-2) opens its 2024 home schedule Saturday facing Pacific (0-9) at 4:30 p.m. and North Florida (9-5) at 7 p.m. On Sunday, the Mustangs will battle Santa Clara (2-6) at 11:30 a.m. and Big West foe UC Davis (6-6) at 3:15 p.m. to wrap up the event.

After an impressive 4-0 weekend in Long Beach that featured victories over No. 13 Florida International University and No. 18 Stetson, Cal Poly climbed to No. 9 in this week's AVCA coaches rankings. The No. 9 ranking is the Mustangs' highest since starting the 2022 season at No. 8.
The Mustangs, who already have four victories over ranked opponents this season, are led by junior Piper Ferch and freshman Erin Inskeep, who own a 10-1 record while playing together at the No. 2 spot this spring. Cal Poly's top pairing, made up of redshirt sophomore Ella Connor and sophomore Izzy Martinez, has also impressed this season, boasting an 8-4 record entering this weekend's matches.
Sunday's match against UC Davis will mark the Mustangs' first of the season against a Big West opponent.
Following this weekend's action, Cal Poly heads to Davis and Sacramento on Saturday, March 23, and Sunday, March 24, for the Big West Challenge. The Mustangs will encounter all six of their conference foes at the tournament — Cal State Bakersfield, UC Davis, CSUN, Long Beach State, Hawai'i and Sacramento State.
