No. 11 Mustangs Take Down No. 18 Stetson, Southern Miss Sunday

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Cal Poly beach volleyball kept its hot streak going Sunday, winning both their matches in Long Beach over Stetson and Southern Miss to extend their win streak to five and improve to 10-2 overall. The No. 11 Mustangs beat No. 18 Stetson 4-1 to start the day before sweeping Southern Miss 5-0 to round things out. Against the No. 18 Hatters, Cal Poly's No. 2 pairing of Piper Ferch and Erin Inskeep got things going with a 21-14, 21-11 win. The No. 1 Mustang duo of Ella Connor and Izzy Martinez then put Cal Poly ahead 2-0 after winning their match 21-14, 21-18. The dual was clinched by the No. 3 pair of Quinn Perry and Madison Nichols after they won 21-17, 21-16. Also getting a win for the Mustangs was the No. 4 pair of Piper Naess and Logan Walter in three sets. A few hours later, Cal Poly squared off against Southern Miss, sweeping all five spots in straight sets and holding Golden Eagles pairings to single digit points in five total sets. It was the No. 5 pair of Emma Zuffelato and Sydney Terrell starting things off with a 21-1, 21-9 victory. Walter and Naess won their match at the No. 3 spot before Connor and Martinez won at the No. 1 spot to officially clinch the victory for the Mustangs. Reinard and Nichols also won their match at the No. 4 spot as did the No. 2 duo of Inskeep and Perry. Ferch and Inskeep are now 10-1 together on the season to lead the team in wins. Cal Poly will now get ready to host their first home event of the season next weekend, March 16 & 17 at Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex. Saturday, the Mustangs will face Pacific at 4:30 p.m. and North Florida at 7 p.m. Then on Sunday, Cal Poly will play Santa Clara at 11:30 a.m. and UC Davis at 3:15 p.m.
