DAY 1 RESULTS
ST. GEORGE, Utah — Cal Poly nearly broke school records in the men's and women's 200-yard medley relays during the opening day of the MPSF Swimming Championships on Wednesday at Utah Tech's Human Performance Center.
After the first day of the conference meet, the Cal Poly men sit in third place (139 points) and the women are in fourth (77 points).
"I don't know if I could have asked for a better start to the meet," interim head coach Tom Milich said.
The Mustang men were just .05 seconds away from shattering the 2018 program record in the 200 medley relay of 1:28.21. Sophomores Drew Huston, Alex Seybold, Anthony Moskalenko and Jonathan Butler helped Cal Poly finish fifth in the event with a time of 1:28.26.
The women nearly did the same, finishing just .14 seconds away from the 2023 school record in the 200 medley relay of 1:42.50. Cal Poly took seventh with a time of 1:42.64. Kelly McDermott, Melia Costa, Katie Treacy and Katie Faris all swam legs on the relay.
Cal Poly also had a strong showing in the men's 800 freestyle relay as Sean Keegan, Lucas Meneghetti, Nick Elliott and Ryan Trichler led the team to a fourth-place finish (6:32.25). Keegan's lead-off time of 1:36.26 in the relay was the second-fastest 200 freestyle time in school history.
Finals for the 200 medley and 800 free relays were the only events contested on the opening day of the meet.
Action on the second day of the MPSF Swimming Championships starts at 9 a.m. PST Thursday with prelims. Finals on Thursday will begin at 5 p.m. PST.
