Mustangs 13th after Opening Day of The Prestige

LA QUINTA – Highlighted by freshman Louis Pilod's four-under 67, three Mustangs finished under par during Monday's opening round at The Prestige as the Cal Poly men's golf program sits in a tie for 13th place alongside Washington State after carding a five-over, 289.
During the team event on the par-71 Greg Norman Course at PGA West, Pilod's 67 comprised four birdies with the freshman (above) closing Monday's action as one of six players tied for sixth place. Graduate student Austin Liu also chalked up four birdies (and two bogeys) to finish two under and in 19th place.
Junior Baron Szeto's card included three birdies and an eagle on the par-five, 617-yard eighth hole before finishing with a 76 and in 93rd place after collecting six bogeys. Graduate student Ben Quick finished with a six-over 77 that included two birdies.
Competing in the individual event on the Terra Lago North Course, senior Joey Zambri sits in fifth with a two-under 70 after enjoying seven birdies. Junior Jackson Parrish is four shots back in 29th with a morning that included 16 pars and two bogeys.
As a program in the 24-team field, Cal Poly trails 12th place Stanford by just two shots heading into Tuesday's second round. The Mustangs are 18 shots off the top after tournament leader Texas Tech fired a 13-under, 271.
