SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Highlighted by the Men's 200 Medley Relay team beating its own 2024 record and a Women's 100 Breast top-5 mark being topped, the Mustang men remained in third with 399 points while the women inched within one point of sixth place being Pacific with 127 points.
Two relay teams scored points in the Women's 200 Medley Relay for Cal Poly as Kristin Der, Melia Costa, Summer Cheng, and Ella Bettencourt (1:44.37) finished in 10th place, while Kiersten Weiler, Amalie Claus-Udarbe, Mikaela Gomez, and Katherine Treacy placed 14th (1:45.94).
During the Men's 200 Medley Relay, Drew Huston, Evan Yoo, Finn Schlamp, and Jonathan Butler (1:27.84) edged out their previous program record set at the Texas Invitational by .02 seconds while placing 4th. Scott Iannaccone, Alex Seybold, Anthony Moskalenko, and Lucas Crother-Collado also nabbed points (1:29.47).
Turning to the 400 IMs, Olivia Sundgren (4:34.20) finished 8th in the A-Final but swam her best time of the day in the prelims (4:33.16) to make that final. Rhian Neitzel (4.28.65) headed the B-Final with the best event time by a Mustang today. Cole Groom (4:02.12) scored better in the prelims but finished 8th (4:02.90) as well with Camilo Vargas (4:05.49) finishing 14th and scoring points despite also performing his best in the prelims (4:05.49).
Despite not scoring points in the Women's 100 Fly, Mikaela Gomez once again enjoyed a solid day individually, finishing 21st during the C-Final (56.80). On the men's side of the 100 Fly, Finn Schlamp led the way with a few points while reaching the B-Final (49.14) and placing 14th.
One of his two personal bests set today, Nick Elliott put up a fantastic 200 Free performance (1:38.90) in making an A-Final and finished 3rd with Lucas Meneghetti following closely behind (1:39.51) in 5th.
Heading into the Women's 100 Breast, Amalie Claus-Udarbe made the A-Final (1:03.82) with the program's fifth-fastest time, also finishing 7th in the finals. Melia Costa swam an even lower time in the prelims (1:03.73) but already stands as the fourth-fastest (1:03.02) in program history. Costa finished just behind Claus-Udarbe in the finals at 8th.
In placing 2nd during the 100 Breast, Evan Yoo swam spectacularly and came within .07 seconds of his own second-best time in program history. Alex Seybold (55.16) and Alex Power (55.76) also scored points in the event while making it to the A and B-Final respectively.
For the Women's 100 Back, Kristin Der might have just scraped by for points in 15th but came close to cracking the program's top-5 list (56.56) with her prelim time. Drew Huston accounted for another Mustang A-Final finish with 4th (47.55) and a time that would be one of the best in program history if he did not already hold the record. During the final events of the day, Abby Isaly, Sundgren, Treacy, and Keira Scott put together a 7:45.98 time in the 800 Free Relay and placed 12th. The men's A group of Huston, Yoo, Meneghetti, and Elliott (6:37.18) finished 3rd and garnered major points for the team score.
