12/16/2024 10:22:00 PM | Women's Basketball
LOS ANGELES — Sophomore forward Mary Carter notched her ninth double digit scoring game of the season, but the Cal Poly women's basketball team fell on the road Monday night to the nation's top team in No. 1 UCLA, 69-37.
Carter finished with a team high 11 points and five rebounds. Senior forward Sydney Bourland added eight points for the Mustangs (4-6, 1-1 Big West), who held the nation's top ranked team to under 45 percent shooting for the game.
Carter scored eight of her points in the first quarter as she helped lead a comeback that saw Cal Poly comeback from down 19-3 to begin the game to 21-10.
The Mustangs continued to battle back in the second quarter, using a 6-2 run to draw within nine. UCLA came back with a 15-4 run over the final five minutes of the first half to take a 41-20 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Bruins (11-0) continued to slowly build on their lead, going up by 26 in the third and never looked back.
Cal Poly will play its final non-conference home game of the season Friday when hosting Seattle University at 2 p.m. inside Mott Athletics Center. The game will air live on ESPN+.
