KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Redshirt junior Chance Lamer and redshirt sophomore Zeth Romney both captured titles in their respective weight classes as Cal Poly wrestling placed third as a team at the Tiger Style Invite hosted by Missouri on Saturday at Staley High School in Kansas City.
A total of 14 Mustangs competed in the six-team tournament, which featured No. 9 Missouri, No. 21 Little Rock, RV Maryland, Purdue and SIU Edwardsville. Cal Poly finished with 126 team points, 10.5 points in front of fourth place No. 21 Little Rock. The host Tigers won the tourney with 168.5 points and Purdue took second with 143.5.
Including Chance and Romney, five Mustangs earned podium finishes at the tournament.
Romney, ranked No. 20 in the country, had an impressive day on the mat, posting a 3-0 record to roll to the 133-pound title. He pinned Missouri's Andrew Crapps 1:25 into their match to open the day, and then defeated No. 29 Kade Moore from Missouri by a 10-4 decision to secure a spot in the championship. In the first-place match, Romney earned a decisive 10-3 win by decision over No. 12 Braxton Brown from Maryland. It was his 10th career victory over a ranked opponent, after the Simi Valley, Calif. native recorded eight last season.

The eighth-ranked 149-pounder in the country earned victories by technical fall (19-3, 5:52) and fall (4:59) to secure a spot in the first-place bout, where he defeated No. 15 Logan Gioffre from Missouri via a 10-4 decision. This marks the second straight year Chance has won the 149-pound title at the Tiger Style Invite.

At 165 pounds, Wick pinned Missouri's Kolten Oborny just over two minutes into their match in the quarterfinals, and then grabbed a big upset in the semifinals, pinning No. 22 Stoney Buell from Purdue at 4:18. In the championship bout, Wick lost by fall to No. 14 Cameron Steed from Missouri.
Holeman earned three victories by decision to secure a spot in the 125-pound championship match. In the final, Holman fought hard against No. 4 Matt Ramos from Purdue — a 2023 All-American — but fell by technical fall.
Defending Pac-12 Wrestler of the Week Trevor Tinker placed third at 285 pounds with a 3-1 record. The 17th-ranked heavyweight in the nation secured a pin 44 seconds into his quarterfinal bout, before falling by major decision to No. 23 Seth Nitzel in the semis.
