Cal Poly Wrestling Heads to Kansas City for Tiger Style Invite

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Cal Poly wrestling team is set to face some stiff competition when they take part in the Tiger Style Invite hosted by Missouri on Saturday at Staley High School in Kansas City.
The Mustangs, who received votes in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association poll, will encounter wrestlers from No. 9 Missouri, No. 21 and Pac-12 foe Little Rock, RV Maryland, Purdue and SIU Edwardsville in the six-team tournament.
Nationally ranked wrestlers will be all over the mat during the event, which will be streamed live on FloWrestling. Action starts at 8 a.m. PST.
This marks the third straight year Cal Poly has participated in the Tiger Style Invite, finishing second in 2022 and third in 2023.
The Mustangs opened their 2024-25 season this past Sunday with a home dual against No. 30 Indiana, falling 31-11 to the Hoosiers. Zeth Romney and Chance Lamer earned victories by decision in the dual, while Trevor Tinker secured a commanding technical fall win at 285 pounds, defeating the 16th-ranked heavyweight in the country 17-1 3:40 into the match. Tinker’s performance allowed him to receive Pac-12 Wrestler of the Week honors and become the fourth Mustang in program history to receive the award.
Four ranked wrestlers are set to take the mat for the Mustangs at the Tiger Style Invite — No. 8 Chance Lamer at 149 pounds, No. 17 Trevor Tinker at 285 pounds, No. 20 Zeth Romney at 133 pounds and No. 27 Legend Lamer at 157 pounds.
Following its first tournament of the season, Cal Poly will return home to host an outdoor dual against No. 15 Stanford at 11:30 a.m. next Saturday, Oct. 16. The dual will be held on the O’Neill Green right outside Mustang Memorial Field at Spanos Stadium. You can purchase tickets to the special event here, which includes admission to the dual, access to the Mustang Corral Pregame BBQ served prior to all home football games and admission to the final Cal Poly home football game of the season against Sacramento State at 2 p.m.
