SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Senior guard Annika Shah and sophomore forward Mary Carter each scored in double figures, but a rough shooting game by Cal Poly women's basketball saw them fall at home Saturday to Idaho, 74-54.
Shah finished with a team-high 14 points to lead the Mustangs (3-3) while Carter added 13 points. As a team, Cal Poly was limited to just 33 percent shooting from the field and 23 percent from three for the game.
Meanwhile, Idaho (3-2) was just the opposite as they shot 53 percent from the field and 53 percent from three.
The Vandals got out to a 14-4 lead early in the game and led it 19-9 after the first quarter. The Mustangs were unable to cut the deficit down in the second as Idaho led 38-26 at halftime.
Idaho came out of the halftime break by starting the third quarter with a 10-0 run to push its lead up to 22. Cal Poly got within 15 midway through the fourth quarter but was unable to draw any closer from there.
The Mustangs head back on the road Monday as they head a few hours north to face Stanford. Tip time from Maples Pavilion is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
