5 Mustangs Nationally Ranked as Cal Poly Preps for Roadrunner Open on Sunday

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Five Cal Poly wrestlers remain nationally ranked heading into the Mustangs’ final action before entering Thanksgiving break this Sunday at the Roadrunner Open.

Redshirt junior Chance Lamer leads the ranked Mustangs with a perfect 5-0 record, checking in at No. 8 at 149 pounds in the latest InterMat rankings. Redshirt sophomore Zeth Romney is ranked 12th at 133 pounds, graduate student Adam Kemp (174 pounds) and redshirt junior Luka Wick (165 pounds) are both ranked 20th in their respective weight classes, and redshirt junior Trevor Tinker is No. 25 at 285 pounds.

Cal Poly has boasted at least five nationally ranked all season long and 27 Mustangs are slated to compete in the Roadrunner Open on Sunday hosted by Cal State Bakersfield. It will mark the Mustangs’ second tournament of the season and their final action before the Thanksgiving holiday. Cal Poly will battle wrestlers from CSUB, Cal Baptist, Oklahoma, Oregon State, Stanford and a host of others at the tournament.

In Cal Poly’s last action this past Saturday, the Mustangs fell short to No. 14 Stanford 33-12 in a dual hosted outside on O’Neill Green prior to the final Cal Poly home football game of the season. Wick and Chance Lamer both earned victories by decision in the dual, while redshirt sophomore Koda Holeman accepted a forfeit at 125 pounds.

Following Sunday’s action, Cal Poly will begin preparing to compete in the 42nd Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational held inside the Las Vegas Convention Center on Dec. 6-7.
