Cal Poly Caps Jacksonville’s Sea Best Invite with Fourth-Place Finish

PONTE VEDRA BEACH – Producing its lowest round at Jacksonville's Sea Best Invitational and the fourth lowest of the field's 15 programs Tuesday morning, the Cal Poly men's golf program jumped three spots on the leaderboard to complete action on the Dye's Valley Course at TPC Sawgrass with a fourth-place finish.
Playing its first tournament of the spring, Cal Poly's one-over par 281 on Tuesday capped a three-round total of 863 as the Mustangs – at 23 over during the two days – finished just five strokes behind host Jacksonville.
Individually for Cal Poly, junior Jackson Parrish (above) shot a three-under 67 on the 6,790-yard course, climbing 31 positions into 37th with a 10-over, 220. Graduate student Ben Quick finished as Cal Poly low scorer, producing an eight-over, 218 for three rounds and a 28th-place finish.
Junior Parker Mapes enjoyed a one-over 71 Tuesday to jump 15 spots into 37th – alongside graduate student Austin Liu, who also carded a 10-over, 220 for the tournament.
Junior Baron Szeto was Cal Poly's second biggest mover Tuesday, jumping 19 spots into 55th place with a two-under 68 during the final round.
Cal Poly resumes action at The Prestige, co-hosted by UC Davis and Stanford Feb. 19-21 at PGA West (Greg Norman Course) in La Quinta, Calif.
