Mustangs Seventh after Opening Two Rounds of Sea Best Invite

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Twelve shots better during Monday's second round than the first, the Cal Poly men's golf program climbed to seventh place to conclude opening-day action at Jacksonville's Sea Best Invitational on the Dye's Valley Course at TPC Sawgrass.
Beginning its spring season Monday, Cal Poly followed an opening round 297 with a second round 285 to climb three spots into seventh place in the 15-team field. At 22 over par through the opening two rounds, the Mustangs enter Tuesday's final round trailing Lipscomb (293-288) by one stroke, fifth-place Florida Gulf Coast (294-284) by four strokes and fourth-place UTSA (297-280) by just five.
Individually on the par 70, 6,790-yard Dye's Valley Course, Cal Poly graduate student Ben Quick sits tied for eighth with a one-over 141, following an opening-round 74 with a second-round 68 to improve 12 spots on the leaderboard. Graduate student Austin Liu (above, 72-73) is tied for 22nd with a five-over, 145.
Junior Parker Mapes (76-73) follows for the Mustangs in 52nd with a nine-over, 149. Junior Jackson Parrish (76-77) sits 68th with a two-round 153 while fellow junior Baron Szeto shot a second-round 71 to climb nine spots into 74th.
Sea Best Invitational action concludes for Cal Poly at 8 a.m. ET on Tuesday, Jan. 30.
