Tied at 10 in the fourth, the Mustangs scored three straight to take a 13-10 lead, one they held for the remainder of the set. UC San Diego got back within two at 20-18 before Cal Poly finished the fourth on a 5-1 run to win it 25-19 and force a decisive fifth set.
The Tritons got out to a 5-2 lead to begin the fifth before Cal Poly responded with a 4-1 run to tie it up at 6 apiece. UC San Diego later took a 12-10 lead but not backing down, the Mustangs scored the next three points to regain the lead at 13-12. After the Tritons tied it back up at 13-13, a kill by Thalken followed by a kill from Slack sealed the comeback for the Mustangs, winning it 15-13.
