SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — In its final exhibition match Sunday afternoon, Cal Poly women's soccer throttled Division II Cal State Monterey Bay 10-0 at Mustang Memorial Field Presented by French Hospital.
The Mustangs put on an offensive clinic, dominating every facet of the game from start to finish. Cal Poly outshot the Otters 28-2 in the match.
Sophomore Emily Lieber started the goal barrage just 35 seconds into the exhibition, and just six minutes later junior Emily Nedom snuck one into the far right post off an assist from sophomore Jessie Halladay to give Cal Poly a quick 2-0 lead.
In the 22nd minute, freshman Annika Smith blasted a beautiful shot from outside the box into the top left corner of the net and then three minutes later Lieber cashed in her second goal of the match to make it 4-0.
The Mustangs added one more before halftime as senior Kate Reedy buried a shot into the CSUMB net off a stretch pass from freshman Sophia Moness with 42 seconds left.
Cal Poly added to its 5-0 advantage just 32 seconds into the second half when freshman Bailey Bracha played a ball across the front of the Otter net and Moness was there to tap in the Mustangs' sixth score of the match. Bracha then buried her own goal in the 49th minute off an assist from fellow freshman Jaycee DeFazio.
Sophomore Caylie Button scored in the 70th minute off a pass from Halladay, who finished with two assists in the exhibition, and then in the 80th minute Cal Poly scored arguably its most perfectly-executed goal of the match. Off a free kick just outside the penalty area, freshman Ali Evans crossed a ball in and graduate student Brooke Golik headed it into the CSUMB net with authority to give the Mustangs a 9-0 lead.
Freshman Kasia Wolf scored Cal Poly's 10th and final goal of the afternoon in the 87th minute.
Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Riley Wilkerson played all 90 minutes in between the pipes for the Mustangs. The 2022 San Luis Obispo High grad turned away the Otters' only shot on goal, making a diving save in the 67th minute to preserve the shutout.
