SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — A total of 10 student-athletes in the Cal Poly track & field and cross country program have earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors.
On the men's side, five Mustang distance runners received praise — Anthony Benitez, John Bennett, Euan Houston, Lucas Lacambra and Spencer Thurman. For the Cal Poly women, Shelby Daniele, Julia Heckey, Cassidy Hubert, Jadyn Snaer and Rachel Victor all garnered recognition.
The CSC Academic All-District men's and women's track & field / cross country teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their performance and dedication in athletics and in the classroom. To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.50 GPA, be a key contributor athletically and meet several other requirements.
This is Bennett's second straight year earning CSC Academic All-District honors. For the Mustangs' other nine honorees, this is their first time receiving the award.
Bennett, Daniele, Snaer and Victor all captured All-Big West honors at this year's Big West Track and Field Championships. Bennett (men's 10,000-meter), Daniele (women's 200) and Victor (women's 3,000 steeplechase) all secured runner-up finishes in their respective individual events at the conference meet. Daniele and Snaer also led the Cal Poly women to a second-place finish in the 4x100 relay with a season best time of 45.39 seconds.
CSC Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot, with first, second and third-team Academic All-America honorees set to be announced on June 28.
