SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Four Mustang tennis players, two from the men's program and two from the women's program, were named College Sports Communicators Academic All-District, the organization announced Tuesday.
Fernando Fonseca and Colter Smith from the Mustang men's team and Delanie Dunkle and Melissa LaMette from the women's team were the four honored for their work in the classroom. All four are business majors.
For Fonseca, who was named Second Team All-Big West in doubles last week, this is the second academic honor of his career. Last year, he earned Big West All-Academic honors and was named Cal Poly's Male Big West Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
This is also Smith's second academic honor of his college career. During his time at USC, he earned ITA All-Academic honors. Last week, Smith was also named Second Team All-Big West in doubles after going 9-7 this year.
For Dunkle, who earned her Second Team All-Big West honors in doubles for a third straight year last week, this is her third career award for academics. She is a two-time Big West All-Academic honoree.
LaMette earned her third career academic accolade after also receiving Big West All-Academic honors in 2022 and 2021.
Dunkle and LaMette helped lead the Mustangs to the program's third straight appearance in the championship match of the Big West Championships this season.
