Mustang junior right-hander Bryce Warrecker retired the first six Utah batters of the game before the Utes erupted for 16 runs over the next four innings en route to their fourth win in 13 meetings against Cal Poly.
Cal Poly trimmed a 12-2 deficit with two runs in the sixth on a run-scoring single by Tate Shimao and an RBI triple by Taison Corio and added single runs in the seventh (RBI double by Ryan Stafford) and eighth (solo home run by Corio) frames.
Bryson Van Sickle (3-5) earned the win, allowing four runs and nine hits over six innings with one walk and seven strikeouts. Bransen Kuehl earned a three-inning save after giving up two runs and three hits.
The loss was charged to Warrecker (3-5), who surrendered seven runs and six hits over 3 2/3 innings with two walks and a pair of strikeouts.
