PULLMAN, Wash. -- Nicole Neale earned a top-20 finish and Cal Poly placed 10th in the 2023 NCAA Division I Pullman Regional women's golf tournament at the Palouse Ridge Golf Course.
Neale, who carded rounds of 68 and 70 in the first two days of competition on the 6,405-yard par-72 course, posted a final-round 73 Wednesday for a five-under-par 211 total and a tie for 17th place with three other golfers. Neale's final round included five birdies and six bogeys.
Neale recorded 16 birdies over 54 holes, No. 2 in the field of 66 golfers, and she finished second in par-three scoring at two under par.
Two other Mustangs posted par rounds Wednesday. Vanessa Wang had four birdies and four bogeys, finishing with a a 225 total and 56th place, while Jensen Jalufka's par round featured two birdies, a pair of bogeys and 14 pars, finishing 37th with a 217 total.
As a team, Cal Poly netted a four-person 292 total for a three-over-par 867 aggregate, 22 strokes behind fifth-place Texas Tech. Top five teams advance to the 2023 NCAA National Championships, slated for May 19-24 at the Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Top-seeded and defending national champion Stanford won the regional team title by 17 strokes over Clemson with USC another seven shots back in third place.
Rose Zhang and Sadle Englemann posted a 1-2 finish for the Cardinal -- Zhang defeating her teammate by four strokes, 197 to 201. Zhang carded rounds of 64, 68 and 65 for her 19-under-par total.
Tiffany Le of UC Riverside was third at 202 and also qualified for the nationals as the top finisher in the regional field not on one of the five teams advancing.
Cal Poly's remaining scorers were Kamille Dimayuga with a final-round 75 for a 224 total and 54th place, and Elizabeth Scholtes with a 76 for a 219 total and 46th place.
Dimayuga carded 38 pars over 54 holes, tied for 10th place.
Cal Poly captured its third consecutive Big West championship three weeks ago in Las Vegas and qualified for the regionals for the fourth time since 2017. The Mustangs competed at Albuquerque in 2017 and at Stanford in both 2021 and 2022.
