
Szeto Sparks Cal Poly to Eighth-Place Tie in The Goodwin

FIRST-ROUND RESULTS
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- Baron Szeto carded a 67 to lead Cal Poly to a tie for eighth place in the first round of The Goodwin Presented by Palo Alto Networks on Thursday at TPC Harding Park.
On the 6,939-yard par-70 course, Szeto birdied six holes and bogeyed three others for his career-best round and fifth in the 60s. He is tied for third place.
Cal Poly entered Friday's second round tied for eighth place with San Diego, both with four-over-par 284 totals. Stanford leads the way at 273, followed by Oklahoma (275) and Georgia Tech (277).
In addition to Szeto, Cal Poly also was paced by Joey Zambri with a 69, tied for 14th place. Zambri posted two birdies, one bogey and 15 pars.
Also scoring for Cal Poly were Ben Quick with a 72 for 56th place, Jackson Parrish with a 76 for 125th place and Austin Liu with a 78 for 141st place.
Competing as an individual, Sean Lehman carded an 81 and is in 150th place.
There are 28 teams and 155 players in the field. Second round is set for Friday with the final round on Saturday.
Bo Peng of Washington and Barclay Brown of Stanford shared first place with 66s at the end of the first round of play. Szeto is tied with three other golfers at 67.
