Mustangs Fall on the Road Saturday at Hawai’i

HONOLULU – Graduate guard Oumou Toure and junior forward Natalia Ackerman both scored in double figures, but Cal Poly, who was plagued by a tough shooting night, dropped its Saturday road contest to Hawai'i, 80-58.
Toure finished with a team-high 14 points and eight rebounds. Ackerman tallied 11 points and also grabbed eight rebounds. Junior guard Taylor Wu, playing back in her hometown, added nine points for the Mustangs (6-14, 3-9 BW), who shot 3-15 from three on the night.
Hawai'i (9-12, 7-5 BW), who shot 55 percent for the game, made five of its first six shots and got out to a 13-2 lead in first three minutes of the game and led by as much as 20 in the first quarter.
Cal Poly got back into it after opening the second quarter with a 10-2 run to get back within eight with just under six minutes left in the half. The Rainbow Wahine, who had five players score in double figures, followed with a 15-3 over the final six minutes of the half to take a 46-26 lead at halftime.
In the third quarter, Hawai'i used a 10-2 run to go up by 29 with 90 seconds left. The Rainbow Wahine extended its lead to as much as 32 in the fourth, their largest lead of the game.
The Mustangs will return home next week for a pair of games starting Thursday, Feb. 9 at 6 p.m. to face UC Irvine for the first time this season. They will then host CSUN Saturday, Feb. 11 at 2 p.m. inside Mott Athletics Center.
