Cal Poly to Host Stanford, Oregon State for Pac-12 Dual Meet Title

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- A total of 16 nationally ranked wrestlers likely will be on the mat inside Mott Athletics Center this weekend as Cal Poly hosts Stanford on Friday night and Oregon State on Sunday afternoon with the Pac-12 dual meet title at stake.
Friday's match begins at 7 p.m. while the first bout Sunday starts at 1 o'clock.
Coach Jon Sioredas' Mustangs are ranked No. 28 by Intermat Wrestle and sport a perfect 3-0 mark in conference duals with wins over CSU Bakersfield, Little Rock and a 19-18 decision against then-No. 8 Arizona State. Cal Poly is 6-6 overall.
The Mustangs are 3-0 in conference matches for the first time since the 2009-10 season when Cal Poly defeated Cal State Fullerton, CSU Bakersfield and Stanford in its first three duals en route to a 5-2 Pac-12 dual meet mark and third-place finish in the Pac-12 Championship.
No. 25 Oregon State is 7-6 for the season and 2-1 in Pac-12 duals with wins over CSU Bakersfield and Little Rock and a 23-16 loss at home to Arizona State.
Stanford is ranked No. 24 with a 6-5 record for the season, including a 2-1 Pac-12 mark with wins over Little Rock and CSU Bakersfield and a 25-14 loss at home to Arizona State.
Stanford closes out the Pac-12 dual meet schedule at Oregon State on Feb. 26.
While Cal Poly currently has just two wrestlers in the top 33 -- Bernie Truax No. 5 at 197 pounds and Dom Demas No. 25 at 149 pounds -- Oregon State and Stanford both will being as many as seven nationally ranked matmen.
A two-time NCAA All-American with a pair of fourth-place finishes, Truax is 9-1 on the year but has not wrestled since Jan. 6 due to a minor knee injury. Demas has compiled a 7-5 record since transferring from Oklahoma.
Several other Mustang wrestlers have records above the .500 mark with modest winning streaks.
Legend Lamer has won three straight matches at 165 pounds and is 9-8 on the year while his older brother, Brawley Lamer, also has won three in a row and is 7-6 for the season.
Jarad Priest has won four straight at 184 to lift his record to 11-9 while heavyweight Trevor Tinker also has won four in a row, improving to 12-7 for the season.
Luka Wick has won three straight and four of his last five to bump his record up to 12-10. Lawrence Saenz is 7-7 at 141 pounds with two wins in a row while Ethan Rotondo has won three of his last four matches for a 7-11 mark at 133.
Stanford's highest-ranked wrestler is 2-21 NCAA national champion Shane Griffith (21-1) at No. 3 in the 165-pound weight class. Jaden Abas (20-4), an NCAA All-American in 2021 (seventh at 149), is ranked No. 11 at 149.
Topping Oregon State's roster are Trey Munoz (20-1), ranked No. 6 at 184 pounds, and Tanner Harvey (18-5), No. 16 at 197 pounds. Munoz is a two-time NCAA qualifier -- one each at Arizona State and Oregon State -- while Harvey earned 52 wins at American University and was an NWCA Honorable Mention All-American in 2020 following the cancellation of the NCAA Championships due to COVID-19.
Stanford will host the Pac-12 Championship on March 5, with the NCAA Division I National Championships slated for March 16-18 at BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla.
