SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Cal Poly swimming and diving program has reached the pinnacle of its season as the team gears up to compete in the 13th annual Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships this Wednesday through Saturday.
For the first time in the history of the MPSF, the swimming portion of the conference championships will be held outside of California at Utah Tech's Human Performance Center in St. George, while the Marguerite Aquatics Complex in Mission Viejo, Calif. is set to host the diving portion of the meet for the fourth time.
The MPSF Swimming Championships will be contested this Wednesday through Saturday while action on the diving board begins Thursday and wraps up Saturday. In the pool, competition kicks off at 5 p.m. PT Wednesday with the men's and women's 200-yard medley and 800-yard freestyle relays.
A full meet schedule can be found here. You can also visit the MPSF website to find a link to watch the swimming portion of the meet, which requires a subscription. There is no livestream for the diving competition. You can follow the live results throughout the championships on Meet Mobile with a subscription.
This will be the Mustangs' first action since completing a Senior Day dual sweep of UC Santa Cruz on Jan. 21.
Heading into the MPSF Championships, senior Max Powell is ranked second in the conference in the men's 1-meter dive (369.90) and fourth in the 3-meter dive (364.65). He is also entered in the platform dive.
Powell is the school record holder in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives and captured seventh and fifth respectively in the events at last year's MPSF Championships.
Freshman Lyndon Kov enters the MPSF meet ranked seventh (306.32) in the men's 3-meter dive and ninth in the 1-meter dive (283.45).
On the women's side, senior Jackie Samaniego is seeded third in the 1-meter dive (267.25) and 10th in the 3-meter. Earlier this season, Samaniego broke the school record in the 1-meter.
In the pool, seniors Kaia Anderson, Brian Wong and Ryan Iannaccone; juniors Ryan Trichler, Sean Keegan and Joshua Billotte; sophomore Taylor Lyon; and freshmen Alex Seybold and Drew Huston all have opportunities to contend for top spots in their respective events.
Last year, Anderson grabbed All-MPSF Second Team honors in three events (400 IM, 500 free, 1650 free). Wong placed fifth in the 200 butterfly at the 2022 conference meet, while Keegan was eighth in the 400 IM.
Cal Poly is looking to improve upon its fifth-place finish on the men's side and seventh-place finish on the women's side at last year's MPSF Championships.
