Cal Poly Breaks School Record in Women's 200 Medley Relay at MPSF Championships

ST. GEORGE, Utah — Freshmen Kiersten Weiler and Melia Costa and seniors Sophie Jackson and Amy Harter powered the Cal Poly women to a school record in the 200-yard medley relay to highlight action for the Mustangs on day one of the MPSF Swimming Championships at Utah Tech's Human Performance Center.
With a time of 1:42.50, Weiler, Costa, Jackson and Harter helped the Mustangs soar past the previous program record in the women's 200 medley relay of 1:43.11, recorded by Allison de Peralta, Angie Haven, Rachel O'Brien, Rachel Cleak in 2013. The time allowed Cal Poly to capture seventh in the event.
"It was a good first night," head coach Phil Yoshida said. "Quite a few lifetime bests, it has all come together nicely. I am excited for the coming days."
Cal Poly also posted season bests in the men's and women's 800 freestyle relay, finishing seventh (6:40.46) and eighth (7:43.14) respectively in each.
After day one, the Mustang women sit in a tie for seventh, while the men are in eighth.
Action from the pool in St. George, Utah resumes at 10 a.m. Thursday with prelims in the 50 free, 200 IM, 200 free relay and 500 free. The MPSF Diving Championships at Marguerite Aquatics Complex in Mission Viejo begin at the same time Thursday with prelims in the men's 1-meter dive and women's 3-meter dive.
