SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Off to a 1-0 start in Pac-12 dual meets following its upset of Arizona State on Jan. 20, the Cal Poly wrestling team continues conference action with two matches this weekend.
Coach. Jon Sioredas' Mustangs (4-6, 1-0 Pac-12) wrestle at CSU Bakersfield (1-6, 0-1 Pac-12) on Friday night before returning home to host Little Rock (3-7, 0-2 Pac-12) on Sunday morning.
The dual Friday at the Icardo Center begins at 7 p.m. while Cal Poly and Little Rock square off inside Mott Athletics Center on Sunday at 11 a.m. The Trojans compete at Arizona State on Friday and, following their dual at Cal Poly, wrestle at CSU Bakersfield on Sunday night.
The Mustangs defeated both opponents a year ago -- a 40-0 decision at Little Rock to improve to 2-0 all-time against the Trojans and 21-18 versus the Roadrunners in San Luis Obispo. CSU Bakersfield still leads its all-time series against Cal Poly, 31-21-2.
Cal Poly opened its Pac-12 dual meet schedule with a come-from-behind 19-18 win at No. 8 Arizona State, overcoming an early 15-0 deficit with four straight victories, including a fall by Jarad Priest at 184, and capturing the 285-pound bout with a 10-2 major decision by Trevor Tinker.
CSU Bakersfield's lone dual meet win so far this season was a 21-16 decision at Central Michigan. The Roadrunners have fallen to Michigan, Northern Colorado, Air Force, Campbell, American and, last Sunday, Oregon State by a 43-4 count.
Runner 149-pounder Josh Brown won the opening bout against the Beavers with a 16-7 major decision before Oregon State swept the final nine matches. Brown is now 15-6 on the year with five straight wins.
At 133, Chance Rich is the lone nationally ranked CSU Bakersfield wrestler at No. 21 with a 13-6 mark. Rich is a two-time NCAA qualifier and twice has finished second in the Pac-12 Championship, both at 133 pounds.
Fourth-year CSU Bakersfield head coach Luke Smith served a year as interim head coach in 2019-20 and was the team's lead assistant coach the previous two seasons. He was head coach or assistant coach at Eastern Michigan from 2011-17 and also spent three seasons at Old Dominion. Smith started his coaching career at Central Michigan from 2008-09 after a successful four-year career with the Chippewas in which he was a four-time NCAA qualifier.
Little Rock, which joined the Pac-12 as an affiliate member for wrestling two years ago, owns victories against Ouachita Baptist, Chattanooga and Lindenwood. In Pac-12 dual meets, the Trojans have fallen to Oregon State 35-3 and Stanford 19-14.
Two Trojan matmen are nationally ranked.
Junior Triston Wills is No. 21 at 174 pounds with a 13-6 record and has placed third in the last two Pac-12 Championships, both at 174 pounds. Sophomore Josiah Hill is ranked No. 32 at 285 pounds with a 12-8 record. He was 14-13 a year ago en route to a fourth-place Pac-12 finish.
Little Rock launched its wrestling program in March 2018 and hired head coach Neil Erisman in June 2018. The Trojans, the sixth member of the Pac-12 for wrestling, began competition in November 2019.
Erisman was an assistant coach at North Carolina for four seasons (2014-18) prior to his selection as Little Rock head coach. He also coached at Stillwater High School for one season and Oklahoma State for two years, both as an assistant, and has mentored 20 NCAA All-Americans and four NCAA individual champions so far.
As a wrestler at Oklahoma State from 2007-11, Erisman compiled a 92-36 career dual meet record and claimed a Big 12 Conference title in 2011 at 157 pounds.

Cal Poly wraps up its dual meet schedule with two more Pac-12 duals at home, hosting Stanford on Feb. 17 and Oregon State on Feb. 19. Stanford will host the Pac-12 Championship on March 5 with the NCAA Division I National Championships to be held March 16-18 in Tulsa, Okla.
