Fall by Tinker, Major by Lamer Power Cal Poly to 22-12 Victory
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- A fall by Trevor Tinker and Legend Lamer's major decision powered Cal Poly to a 22-12 victory over CSU Bakersfield in a Pac-12 Conference dual wrestling meet Friday night at the Icardo Center.
Lamer's major at 165 pounds gave Cal Poly a 7-3 lead, an advantage the Mustangs did not relinquish the rest of the way. Tinker's sixth fall of the season enabled the Mustangs to build a 16-9 cushion and Cal Poly won two of the final three bouts to improve to 2-0 in Pac-12 matches and 5-6 for the year.
"Our guys wrestled hard tonight," said seventh-year Mustang head coach Jon Sioredas. "Many exciting matches. We are proud of their overall effort. A bit of fine tuning tomorrow to get ready to host Little Rock at home on Sunday."

Lamer evened his record at 8-8 with his first major decision of the year, scoring a takedown in the first period, a takedown, escape and penalty point in the second round and seven more points in the final period on two takedowns, a penalty point and a two-point near fall plus riding time for the 14-2 win.
Tinker, who won his first three matches by fall this season, is now 11-7 this season. The redshirt freshman 285-pounder scored a takedown in the opening 90 seconds of his bout before pinning Jake Andrews in 2 minutes, 7 seconds.
Ethan Rotondo and Lawrence Saenz sealed the verdict for the Mustangs with sudden-victory decisions at 133 and 141 pounds, respectively.
Rotondo took on 21st-ranked Chance Rich, a two-time national qualifier. The pair exchanged escapes in the second and third periods before Rotondo notched a takedown with 16 seconds remaining in the first extra period for the 3-1 win, improving to 6-11 for the year.
Saenz is now 6-7 following his 5-3 overtime victory over Angelo Martinoni. After a scoreless first period, Saenz tallied an escape in the second round and a reversal early in the final period for a 3-0 lead. Martinoni tied the match with an escape, penalty point and riding time to force overtime.
Saenz notched his winning takedown 42 seconds into the first extra period for the win.
Wick overcame a 2-0 deficit with an escape, penalty point and takedown in the final period for a 4-2 decision against Brock Rogers. Now 11-10 for the season, Wick tallied his winning takedown with 18 seconds remaining to snap a 2-2 tie.
Priest moved over the .500 mark at 10-9 with an 11-6 decision over Jacob Hansen. Trailing 4-2 entering the third period, Priest notched two escapes, a pair of takedowns and a two-point near fall plus riding time for the win.
Cal Poly hosts Little Rock for another Pac-12 dual meet Sunday at 11 a.m. in Mott Athletics Center. The Trojans are 3-8 overall and 0-3 in conference matches following their 31-6 setback at Arizona State on Friday night.
