Mustangs Finish Strong at Trailblazer Invitational

ST. GEORGE, Utah — Three Mustangs secured second-place individual finishes as Cal Poly swimming and diving wrapped up competition at the three-day Utah Tech Trailblazer Invitational on Saturday.
A trio of sophomores led the way for the Mustang men on the final day in Utah. Finn Schlamp earned second in the 200-yard butterfly (1:49.01), Alex Seybold grabbed second in the 200 breaststroke (2:01.76) and Cameron Schwantes took second in the 1650 freestyle (15:44.50).
Senior Joshua Billotte snagged a fourth-place finish in the 1650 free (15:49.86) and sophomore Alex Power placed fifth in the 200 breast (2:02.37).
As a team, the Cal Poly men placed third out of four schools at the meet (807 points).
On the women's side, freshman Olivia Sundgren posted an impressive performance for the third straight day, securing third in the 1650 free (17:01.34).
Senior Kelly McDermott (200 back, 2:02.25) and freshman Amalie Claus-Udarbe (200 breast, 2:20.05) both earned 10th-place finishes Saturday.
The women placed seventh out of eight teams.
Meanwhile in Flagstaff, the Cal Poly diving squad continued competition at the Lumberjack Diving Invitational on Saturday. Freshman Madden Saini led the way, finishing second in the men's 1-meter dive (270.05). Freshman Shayna Gayer was the highest finisher for the Mustangs in the women's 3-meter dive, placing 14th out of 31 divers.
The Mustangs wrap up the Lumberjack Invitational on Sunday with platform diving. Competition starts at 9 a.m.
