11/15/2023 2:00:00 PM | Swimming and Diving
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — After a month break from action, Cal Poly swimming and diving returns to the water this Thursday through Sunday to compete in a pair of high-level meets.
Mustang swimmers are set to participate in the third annual Utah Tech Trailblazer Invitational this Thursday through Saturday at the UT HPC Pool in St. George, Utah. Each day, prelim sessions begin at 9 a.m. PST with final sessions to follow at 4 p.m. PST. The three-day invitational will be streamed live on WAC International.
The Cal Poly women will encounter three Mountain Pacific Sports Federation foes and seven total teams at the meet — Pacific, UC Davis, UC San Diego, Cal Baptist, Fresno State, Nevada and Utah Tech. The men are set to square off against the Lancers, Tigers and Tritons.
The Mustang diving squad will be in Flagstaff, Arizona, this Friday through Sunday to take part in the Lumberjack Diving Invite hosted by Northern Arizona. Cal Poly will battle divers from a handful of schools, including UC Davis, Grand Canyon, Idaho, Fresno State and New Mexico. Competition Friday and Saturday starts at 9:30 a.m. PST, while divers will hit the water on the final day at 9 a.m. PST.
The two meets will mark the first competition for the Mustangs since participating in the CSUB Sprint Classic and Roadrunner Invitational on Oct. 13-14. It's also just the second time Cal Poly has competed away from Anderson Aquatic Center this season.
The Mustang men won both the Sprint Classic and Roadrunner Invitational beating out host Cal State Bakersfield in each. Sophomore Drew Huston captured three event victories across the two meets, while sophomore Alex Seybold and freshman Theoden Yavuzer-Judd each secured two wins. The women placed third in both meets and freshman Olivia Sundgren had a standout performance in the two events, earning first in the 500-yard freestyle and second in the 1000 free.
Following this week's action, Cal Poly will take another significant break from competition before traveling to Bakersfield on Saturday, Jan. 6, for a dual with the Roadrunners.
