Mustangs Fall on the Road to No. 6 Stanford Thursday

PALO ALTO, Calif. — Continuing its tough stretch of seven straight road games to begin the season, Cal Poly women's basketball fell to No. 6 Stanford 86-32 Thursday evening in Palo Alto.
Junior guard Annika Shah led the Mustangs (1-4) with nine points while graduate guard Ania McNicholas had six points.
Cal Poly hung tough with the No. 6 Cardinal (3-0) early, taking 2-0 lead to start the game and were tied 8-8 with six minutes left in the first quarter. However, Stanford finished the first on a 14-0 run to lead by 14 heading into the second.
The Cardinal then scored the first seven points of the second quarter to go up by 21 and led 53-15 at halftime.
Four players scored in double figures for the Cardinal, who shot 53 percent for the game and 44 percent from three.
The Mustangs go up to the Pacific Northwest next week to take on Seattle University Tuesday, Nov. 21 at 6 p.m.
