SAN MARCOS, Texas — Graduate senior Kaylee Sakoda and junior Kamille Dimayuga both turned in top-30 finishes to highlight the Cal Poly women's golf team at the Jim West Challenge Sunday and Monday at Kissing Tree Golf Club in San Marcos, Texas.
Sakoda and Dimayuga both shot under par as Sakoda finished tied for 24th at three under after shooting rounds of 70, 71, and 72 on the par-72 6,132-yard course. Dimayuga was right behind her at two under par with rounds of 72, 70, and 72.
As a team, the Mustangs finished the tournament in 10th place against some of the top teams in the country with a score of four under par. They finished ahead of New Mexico, Tulane, and Washington State.
"We are really encouraged by the team's performance this week," second-year head coach Courtney Roberts said. "It was a total team effort and a great experience to close out our fall season in Texas."
Cal Poly's Jensen Jalufka finished tied for 34th at even par, Sara Yoo was tied for 47th at three over, and Nicole Neale placed tied for 54th at six over.
With the fall portion of the schedule now wrapped up, the Mustangs will get ready for competition in the spring which gets going Feb. 5 at the Beach Invitational at Old Ranch Country Club in Seal Beach, Calif. Cal Poly will be seeking to win its fourth straight Big West title this spring and second under Roberts.
"This team has great upside and showed we can compete with the top teams in the country," Roberts added. "We look forward to building on what we have learned this fall as we prepare for our spring season."
