TEMPE, Ariz. -- No. 28 Cal Poly rallied from a 15-0 deficit with four consecutive wins and heavyweight Trevor Tinker's major decision in the final bout lifted the Mustangs to a 19-18 victory over No. 8 Arizona State in a Pac-12 Conference dual wrestling meet Friday night in Desert Financial Arena.
Tinker scored three takedowns in the final period for a 10-2 major decision over David Palosika, giving Cal Poly four points in overcoming an 18-15 deficit.
The Mustangs snapped a 10-match losing streak against Arizona State dating back to 2012 and won for the 15th time in 53 matches all-time against the Sun Devils.
"Our guys wrestled hard," said seventh-year Cal Poly head coach Jon Sioredas. "We put together a great week of preparation and it showed. I could not be more proud of our team. It's a good time of year to hit our stride."
After a fall and three decisions gave the Sun Devils the big early lead, Mustang 157-pounder Luka Wick snapped the streak with a 6-0 decision and brothers Legend and Brawley Lamer along with Jarad Priest also earned victories as Cal Poly erased the deficit in the team scoring.
Wick scored a takedown in the first period and, after a scoreless second period, earned an escape, takedown and riding time for his second shutout of the year. Wick (10-10) also blanked Joseph Mora of California Baptist in a 17-0 technical fall in early November.
Legend Lamer, ranked 31st in the nation, also won by shutout, decisioning unranked Tony Negron 4-0 at 165 pounds. Now 7-8 on the year, Lamer snapped a scoreless draw with an escape and takedown in the final period plus riding time. Lamer rode Negron out in the second period.
Brawley Lamer recorded three takedowns, an escape and riding time for an 8-2 decision over Josh Nummer at 174. Lamer earned a takedown in both the first and second periods for a 4-2 lead and added an escape, takedown and riding time in the final period for his fifth win in 11 bouts this season.
Priest jumped to an 8-1 lead in the first period on his way to fall in 6 minutes, 25 seconds over Canyon Mansfield at 184 pounds. Two takedowns and a four-point near fall gave Priest the 8-1 advantage and he added an escape, penalty point and takedown in the second period and two takedowns in the final period for a 16-2 lead before evening his record for the season at 9-9 with his first fall of the season.
Arizona State took an 18-15 lead with Jonathon Fagen's 8-1 decision over Kendall La Rosa at 197, setting the stage for Tinker's late heroics for the dual meet victory.
After a scoreless first period, Tinker earned an escape five seconds into the second period and added a takedown midway through the stanza for a 3-0 lead. His three takedowns in the last period, including the clincher with 23 seconds remaining, plus riding time lifted the redshirt freshman to the major decision and a 10-7 record for the season.
Cal Poly wrestled without two regulars -- 149-pounder Dom Demas and 197-pounder Bernie Truax -- due to injuries.
"We competed with a chip on our shoulder and everyone played a part in picking up a marquee win against a Top 10 program," said Sioredas.
Cal Poly (4-6, 1-0 Pac-12) is idle next week, returning to action Friday, Feb. 3, with another Pac-12 dual meet at CSU Bakersfield. The Mustangs host Little Rock on Sunday, Feb. 5, at 11 a.m.
