DAVIS, Calif. — Senior Kaia Anderson (pictured above) grabbed a pair of victories in the 400-yard individual medley and 500-yard freestyle to lead the Cal Poly women's swim team during Sunday's dual at MPSF rival UC Davis.
The Mustangs dropped the dual against the Aggies 141-78.
In the 400 IM, Cal Poly swept the top three places as Anderson placed first, junior Kelly McDermott second and senior Samantha Rankin. The two individual victories against UC Davis give Anderson a total of four this season.
Rankin also secured second in the 200 breaststroke and McDermott earned third in the 200 backstroke.
Freshmen Kiersten Weiler, Courtney Cross and Melia Costa and senior Amy Harter helped the Mustangs finish first in the 200 free relay (1:40.62). Individually, Weiler took third in the 100 back, Cross captured third in the 200 free and Harter snagged third in the 50 free.
Freshman Abby Islay grabbed a pair of third-place finishes in the 500 free and 1000 free.
The men hit the pool in Davis as well for some friendly intrasquad competition to wrap up the weekend. Seniors Brian Wong and Ryan Iannaccone, junior Ryan Trichler and freshmen Lucas Meneghetti, Drew Huston and Alex Seybold all captured individual wins.
Cal Poly returns home to host a Senior Day dual with UC Santa Cruz on Saturday, Jan. 21, at noon. It will be the Mustangs' final action before heading to Utah for the conference championships on Feb. 15-18.
