3 Mustangs Claim Individual Wins at Pacific

STOCKTON, Calif. — Seniors Brian Wong and Amy Harter, and freshman Kiersten Weiler earned individual victories and Cal Poly swimming won two relays during Saturday's dual at Pacific.

Weiler ran away with the title in the women's 100-yard backstroke, while Harter grabbed first in the 50 freestyle (24.09 seconds). The duo also teamed up with freshman Melia Costa and senior Erin Kim to lead the Mustang women to victory in the 200 medley relay.

Wong (pictured above) cruised to individual glory in the men's 200 butterfly, secured second in the 100 butterfly and anchored Cal Poly's first-place 400 free relay team. Freshmen Andrew Sullivan and Jonathan Butler, and senior Ryan Iannaccone were also on the relay.

Cal Poly lost the dual to the Tigers as the men fell 164-98 and the women 165-97.

Kim earned second in the 100 fly and third in the 200 free as well, while Costa was third in the 100 breaststroke. Senior Kaia Anderson grabbed runner-up finishes in the 200 breast and 1000 free, junior Kelly McDermott took second in the 200 and 100 backstroke and freshman Courtney Cross secured second in the 500 free and third in the 1000 and 100 free.

Senior Samantha Rankin placed second in the 100 breast and 200 individual medley, and third in the 500 free.

On the men's side, junior Ryan Trichler brought home second-place finishes in the 200 fly and 200 IM and third in the 200 breast. Iannaccone earned second in the 100 free and third in the 50 free, while Sullivan was third in the 100 free.

Freshman Alex Seybold placed second in the 100 and 200 breast, freshman Drew Huston took runner-up in the 100 back and Butler and junior Sean Keegan tied for third in the 200 free. Keegan grabbed third in the 200 back as well, while freshmen Cole Groom (1000 free), Nick Elliott (500 free) and Mac Follmer (200 fly) each secured a third-place finish.

Mustang swim is back in action at 10 a.m. Sunday for a dual against the UC Davis women's team.
