FINAL RESULTS
FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- All five Cal Poly golfers competing in the Colonel Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic women's golf tournament, led by Jensen Jalufka and Nicole Neale with final-round 69s, finished in the top 20 Tuesday.
Their performance led coach Courtney Roberts' Mustangs to a second-place team finish.
Nevada ran away with the team title, scoring a four-person 54-hole 32-under-par 832 aggregate at the 6,468-yard par-72 Ptarmigan Country Club, but Cal Poly, which trailed host Colorado State by one stroke after Monday's 36 holes of play, posted a 282 total in the final round while the Rams carded a 287 in falling to third place.
The Mustangs also carded a 282 total in Monday's second round. Those two rounds are only five strokes off the school record of 277 set in October 2019 at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational at Kapolei. The 850 aggregate missed the program mark by just one stroke (849 at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate in Highlands Ranch, Colo., a year ago).
Jalufka climbed three spots into a tie for fifth place with her 69, equalling her collegiate career-best round that included five birdies and a pair of bogeys, for a 210 total. Neale jumped from 14th place to ninth with the same -- five birdies and two bogeys -- as she posted her third collegiate round of 69 for a 212 total.
Vanessa Wang climbed three positions into 14th place with a 72 for a 216 total while Elizabeth Scholtes also posted a 72, moving up eight spots on the leaderboard into 17th place at 218. Wang recorded two birdies and a pair of bogeys for her even-par round while Scholtes checked in with a quartet of birdies, two bogeys and a double-bogey.
Kamille Dimayuga rounded out Cal Poly's scoring with a 74 for a 215 total and 12th place.
Competing as an individual, Siri Jansson posted a 75 for a 225 total and 37th place.
Victoria Gailey of Nevada claimed medalist honors with a final-round 68 for a 15-under-par 201 total, five shots ahead of runner-up Megan Yang of UC Irvine. Taesa Sheikh of Nevada was third at 208.
Jalufka, who posted her third career top-10 finish and the highest finish in her Cal Poly career, finished first in par-3 scoring at three under par and was eighth in par-4 scoring at even par. Neale topped the field in par-5 scoring at eight under par. Jalufka's 37 pars were sixth-best for the tournament and Dimayuga's 14 birdies were No. 2 with three other golfers.
Jalufka's 141 total for 36 holes exceeded her career best by one stroke while her 210 aggregate for 54 holes shattered her previous best by nine strokes and is the second-best total in program history. Caroline Cantlay carded a 206 total at the UC Irvine Invitational in October 2018.
Cal Poly returns to action Oct. 3-5 at the Golf Iconic Classic on the New Mexico State University Golf Course in Las Cruces, N.M.
