SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — A strike from freshman Emily Lieber with five minutes left propelled White to a 2-1 victory over Green in the annual intrasquad scrimmage for Cal Poly women's soccer Saturday night at Alex G. Spanos Stadium.
With the Mustangs' lineup halved for the match, Green opened the scoring in the 16th minute when freshman Caylie Button found sophomore Kate Reedy, who buried a shot past a diving Mary Norman for the Mustangs' first goal on the new FieldTurf at Spanos.
Green carried the 1-0 advantage into halftime, outshooting White 4-2.
In the second half, White picked up the pace and evened the score at 1-1 less than a minute in when senior Olivia Ortiz created some space and blasted a shot from outside the penalty box into the top right corner of the net.
Sophomore McKenna Carbon connected with Lieber in the midfield on the game-winning goal.
White outshot Green 9-8 in the match, freshman Riley Wilkerson made three saves for Green and senior Lindsay Kellogg finished with two for White.
Two 35-minute halves were played during the scrimmage.
The Mustangs will be back at Spanos 7 p.m. Wednesday for an exhibition match against NAIA Westmont. Cal Poly wraps up preseason play next Saturday, Aug. 13 with an exhibition at San Jose State.
