Cal Poly Draws with San Jose State in Final Exhibition

SAN JOSE, Calif. — Cal Poly women's soccer wrapped up preseason play Saturday night at San Jose State with a 1-1 draw in an exhibition match.
Senior forward Nikki Trucco opened the scoring with a goal in the 28th minute to put Cal Poly up 1-0.
The Mustangs carried that advantage into halftime. Sophomore goalkeeper Mary Norman started in net and made two saves in the opening 45 minutes. Freshman goalkeeper Riley Wilkerson, a 2022 San Luis Obispo High grad, was in between the pipes for the Mustangs in the second half.
Cal Poly surrendered an own goal in the 54th minute on a San Jose State corner kick. The teams were unable to break the 1-1 tie the rest of the way.
The Mustangs outshot the Spartans 17-8 and freshman forward Emily Lieber led all players with three shot attempts. Wilkerson finished with a save and one goal allowed.
Cal Poly opens the 2022 regular season Thursday, Aug. 18 at Saint Mary's, with kickoff set for 4 p.m. Iowa comes to Alex G. Spanos Stadium on Sunday, Aug. 21 for the Mustangs' home opener.
