Hallett, Bennett Receive CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors

GREENWOOD, Ind. — Cal Poly's Emily Hallett and John Bennett were both named to the 2021-22 Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District 8 Track & Field/Cross Country First Team released Thursday.
Hallett was one of 12 women honored from District 8 and Bennett was one of 14 men from the region that received the distinction. Only one other student-athlete from the Big West Conference was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 First Team.
Hallett, a senior biological sciences major with a 4.0 GPA, captured 21st in the women's hammer throw at the NCAA West Preliminaries on Thursday at the University of Arkansas. She holds the school record in the event (200 feet, 11 inches) and won the 2021 conference title.
Bennett, a senior mechanical engineering major with a 3.96 GPA, placed sixth in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters at this year's Big West Championships to score team points for the Mustangs. Bennett was also a member of the Cal Poly men's cross country team that finished second at the 2021 conference championships.
All First-Team Academic All-District honorees, including Hallett and Bennett, advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot, which will be announced in June.
