No. 11 Mustangs Win Pair of Matches Sunday Palo Alto

PALO ALTO, Calif. — The Cal Poly beach volleyball team finished its weekend at Stanford strong, collecting a pairs of wins Sunday over Saint Mary's and UC Davis in Palo Alto.Jayelin Lombard and freshman Piper Ferch put the Mustangs on the board after winning 21-17, 21-19. That was followed by the No. 4 duo of redshirt junior Vanessa Roscoe and sophomore Sam Strah winning 21-16, 21-19.
The win was officially clinched by the No. 1 pair of redshirt senior Tia Miric and freshman Ella Connor after they were victorious 21-15, 21-19. At the No. 3 spot, freshman Peyton Dueck and graduate Addison Hermstad had a dominant straight sets win, 21-13, 21-7.
At the No. 5 spot, redshirt senior Mariah Whalen made her first appearance of the season in the Cal Poly lineup after returning from injury to team up with redshirt junior Kalee Graff and pick up a 21-18, 21-13 win together to complete the sweep.

A few hours later, the Mustangs were back on the sand to face UC Davis, a team Cal Poly beat last week at the Big West Challenge in Long Beach.
It was once again Ferch and Lombard at the No. 2 spot getting the Mustangs the first point of the dual after they won 21-19, 21-13. They are now 18-10 on the season and 8-2 over the last 10 matches.
After the Aggies won at the No. 4 spot to tie the dual 1-1, the No. 5 pair of sophomore Piper Naess and redshirt sophomore Josie Ulrich regained the lead for the Mustangs after winning 21-14, 21-9. For the weekend, Naess and Ulrich were a perfect 3-0 to push their record together this season to 6-0.
Dueck and Hermstad then clinched the dual for Cal Poly after a 21-9, 21-19 win at the No. 3 spot to push their record together to 17-3 on the season.
Miric and Connor earned the fourth point of the dual after they won at the No. 1 spot in three sets, 21-16, 22-24, 16-14. They are now 19-8 this year, the most wins on the team.
The Mustangs will be off this next weekend before returning to action April 15 and 16 when they host four of the top teams in the nation at Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex for the third annual Center of Effort Challenge. The Mustangs will face No. 1 UCLA, No. 3 USC, No. 4 Florida State, and No. 5 LMU.
The No. 11 Mustangs (17-11) beat the Gaels 5-0 to start the day before getting a 4-1 win over the Aggies a few hours later. Cal Poly finished with a record of 3-1 for the weekend.
