
Cal Poly to Make Return Trip to Stanford Golf Course for Regionals

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- The Cal Poly women's golf team is headed back to the Stanford Golf Course for the second year in a row.
Coach Sofie Aagaard's Mustangs, back-to-back Big West Conference champions, will compete in the NCAA Stanford Regional on May 9-11.
A total of 72 teams and 36 individual participants have been selected for regional competition. Of the 396 players participating in the six regionals, 132 will advance to the championship finals, with the top four teams and top two individuals (not on an advancing team) advancing from each regional.
The national championships will be May 20-25 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona hosted by Arizona State and The Thunderbirds. The final three days of the championships will be televised live by the GOLF Channel.
Joining Cal Poly at the Stanford Regional are Stanford, USC, LSU, Texas Tech, Kentucky, Iowa State, Northwestern, Purdue, UNLV, Princeton and Sacred Heart.
Other regional sites are the UNM Championship Course (Albuquerque, NM), U-M Golf Course (Ann Arbor, Mich.), Vanderbilt Legends Club (Franklin, Tenn.), Karsten Creek Golf Club (Stillwater, Okla.) and Seminole Legacy Golf Club (Tallahassee, Fla.).
Twenty-seven conferences received automatic qualification to the 2022 Division I Women's Golf Championships.
Ole Miss is the defending national champion after claiming its first NCAA Division I women's golf national championship in school history in 2021. The Rebels defeated Oklahoma State 4-1 in the national championship match at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale.
Cal Poly claimed the automatic qualifying spot from the Big West after winning a one-hole playoff with Hawai'i on April 12 at the San Luis Obispo Country Club.
Cal Poly and Hawai'i each claimed a share of the conference title with 903 totals. The Mustangs won the playoff, matching the Nos. 5 golfers against each other, followed by the Nos. 4s, etc., by a 14-18 count.
In addition to the 2021 and 2022 Stanford regionals, Cal Poly also competed in the 2017 Albuquerque Regional.
