SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- Will Draper carded a final-round 72, climbing 10 positions to a tie for 11th place to highlight Cal Poly's performance in the UC Santa Barbara Collegiate on Tuesday at the Sandpiper Golf Course.
Draper recorded six birdies, two bogeys and a pair of double-bogeys for his even-par round and a 146 aggregate for 36 holes, sharing 11th place with five other golfers.
Monday's scheduled second round was canceled due to high winds on the course. "I personally watched a guy place his ball on the green, and the ball just scooted right off," said Daniel Moebus-Bowles, an assistant communications director for UC Santa Barbara.
Mustangs Baron Szeto and Austin Liu shared 40th place with 151 totals as Szeto posted a final-round 74 and Liu a 76.
Completing Cal Poly's scoring were Nicholas Mok and Parker Mapes, both with a 74 for 156 totals and 61st place.
Competing as individuals Adil Bir Singh finished in a tie for 52nd place with a 153 total after a final-round 73 while Joey Zambri claimed 74th place with a 158 total following a final-round 74.
As a team, Cal Poly finished 11th among 14 schools in the field with a 26-over-par 602 total. CSUN and Grand Canyon captured top honors with identical even-par 576 totals. CSUN earned the first-place trophy with the best cumulative, throw-away score to take the team championship.
Individual honors went to Matteo Cristoni of Grand Canyon with a final-round 65 for a five-under-par 139 total and a one-shot victory over Ethan Davidson (69-71--140) of Sacramento State and Eirik Thomassen (67-73--140) of CSUN.
Cal Poly will compete in one final event -- the El Macero Classic hosted by UC Davis on April 20-22 at the El Macero Country Club just outside Sacramento -- prior to the Big West Conference Championships, slated for May 1-3 at the La Quinta Country Club.
