FINAL RESULTS
STANFORD, Ca lif. -- Austin Liu fired a final-round 68 to climb 28 spots into a tie for 65th place at The Goodwin men's golf tournament hosted by Stanford on Saturday at the Stanford Golf Course.
Liu carded five birdies and three bogeys on the 6,729-yard par-70 layout.
Also playing well for the Mustangs in the final round was Baron Szeto with a 70 that included two birdies, two bogeys and 14 pars. He jumped 11 spots into a tie for 96th place.
Liu and Szeto led the Mustangs to a 24th-place finish among 28 teams competing in the three-day 54-hole tournament that featured 28 teams, including seven in Golfstat.com's top 50.
Coach Phil Rowe's Mustang golfers compiled their best team total of the tournament in the final round, a four-person five-over-par 285 total.
Washington posted a final-round 270 for a 22-under-par 818 total and first place, three shots ahead of Nevada. Stanford, in first place after two rounds, carded a final-round 283 and slipped to third at 823.
Individual winner was Peyton Callens of Nevada, who started the final round in third place but won with a 65 for a 13-under-par 197 aggregate.
Second-round leader Lucas Carper posted a 67 for a 198 total and second place while Sampson Zheng of Cal was third at 199.
In addition to Liu and Szeto, Cal Poly's other scoring golfers included Nicholas Mok with a final-round 71 (three birdies, four bogeys) for a 218 total and 99th place; and Joey Zambri, who followed his Friday round of 68 with a 76 for a 223 total and 120th place.
Sean Lehman, disqualified Friday after signing an incorrect scorecard, carded a 77 in Saturday's final round.
Liu was tied for third in par-5 scoring at eight under par.
Cal Poly returns to action April 11-12 in the UC Santa Barbara Collegiate on the Sandpiper Golf Course.
