with a home run and single Saturday.
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Right fielder John Lagattuta homered, singled and drove in three runs as Cal Poly, which produced a five-run rally for the fourth time this season, clinched its three-game Big West Conference series against CSUN on Saturday with an 8-4 triumph inside Baggett Stadium.
Lagattuta gave the Mustangs (9-9, 2-0 Big West) a 3-0 lead with his second home run, a two-run shot in the second inning.
After CSUN tied the game in the third on a three-run home run by Bart West, Cal Poly quickly regained the upper hand with a five-spot in the bottom of the frame.
A Matador error on a sacrifice bunt attempt by Tate Samuelson tallied the first run, breaking the 3-3 tie. Collin Villegas drew a bases-loaded walk, Lagattuta singled through the right side of the infield for an RBI, Matthias Haas scored on a wild pitch and Reagan Doss' sacrifice fly capped the uprising.
CSUN managed just one run the rest of the way on Brandon Bohning's RBI single to right field in the sixth inning.
Southpaw Travis Weston (2-0) earned his second consecutive victory after opening the season with three no-decisions, striking out six while allowing four runs and eight hits. Kyle Scott earned a three-inning save, his second of the year, with 3 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing one hit with four strikeouts.
Lagatutta, a transfer from Cal, and freshman catcher Ryan Stafford each had two of Cal Poly's eight hits. Lee added a first-inning RBI triple and Villegas produced his second double of the series after going hitless in 16 consecutive at-bats over his previous five-plus games.
Despite the loss, CSUN outhit Cal Poly 9-8, led by West, Bohning and Andrew Sojka, each with a pair of hits.
Cal Poly earned its first home series win of the season after losing two of three to Washington and splitting four games with Harvard. The Mustangs are now 6-6 at home.
Final game of the series will be played Sunday at 1 o'clock with Cal Poly to send senior right-hander Dylan Villalobos (0-1, 1.35 ERA) to the mound against CSUN freshman right-hander Sebastian Granados (0-0, 1.59 ERA).
