
Cal Poly Falls to Tampa, No. 6 TCU Sunday at FSU Beach Bash

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Cal Poly Beach Volleyball team suffered a pair of losses to the University of Tampa and No. 6 TCU Sunday to wrap up its opening weekend of the season at the FSU Beach Bash.
The No. 6 Mustangs (1-3) dropped their first match of the day to the Spartans 3-2 before later falling to the No. 6 Horned Frogs 3-2 as well.
Against Tampa, Cal Poly's No. 5 pairing of Vanessa Roscoe and Kalee Graff put the Mustangs ahead 1-0 after a 21-12, 21-19 win. Cal Poly then took a 2-0 lead after the No. 3 duo of Addison Hermstad and Josie Ulrich had a 21-19, 21-15 victory.
However, Tampa then won successive matches at the two, one, and four spots in the lineup to comeback and win the dual 3-2.
Against No. 6 TCU later in the day, the Horned Frogs started the dual with a win at the No. 5 spot to take a 1-0 lead. They then won matches at the No. 1 and No. 4 spots to clinch the match.
However, Hermstad and Ulrich picked up their second win of the day at the No. 3 spot 21-15, 21-17 to get the Mustangs on the board.
Also getting a win in the match was Cal Poly's No. 2 pair of Jayelin Lombard and Piper Ferch. They came back after dropping the first set to win the next two, taking it 17-21, 21-19, 15-13.
The Mustangs will head to Los Angeles March 5-6 for four matches against No. 7 Stanford, No. 15 Long Beach State, No. 9 GCU, and No. 2 UCLA.
