Mustang Men Capture Second at UNLV Invitational

FINAL RESULTS
LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Highlighted by senior Brian Wong's second-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly, Cal Poly swimming and diving wrapped up competition at the three-day UNLV Invitational on Monday night.
The Mustangs impressed in Vegas as the men captured second and the women took home sixth out of 10 teams. On the men's side, Cal Poly finished just 37 points behind first-place UNLV.
Wong (pictured above) capped off a strong showing at the meet by grabbing second in the 200 fly (1:49.05) and fifth in the 100 IM individual medley.
Junior Ryan Trichler and freshman Alex Seybold finished off an impressive three days as well as Trichler secured sixth in the 100 IM and eighth in the 200 breaststroke and Seybold earned seventh in the 200 backstroke and 200 breast. In the men's individual standings at the meet, Trichler finished second (76 points) and Seybold was third (70).
Junior Joshua Billotte led the way in the 1650 free, placing fourth. Freshman Cole Groom was eighth in the event, while junior Jimmy Butler earned ninth. Senior Ryan Iannaccone secured fourth in the 100 IM and eighth in the 100 free, while freshmen Anthony Moskalenko and Jonathan Butler took seventh and eighth respectively in the 100 IM.
Three other Mustangs had strong swims in the 200 fly. Freshman Mac Follmer placed fourth, freshman Camilo Vargas fifth and Groom eighth. Vargas also grabbed eighth in the 200 back Monday.
In the 400 free relay, freshman Andrew Sullivan, Jonathan Butler, Iannaccone and Moskalenko carried Cal Poly to a third-place finish.
On the women's side, senior Kaia Anderson posted a few more impressive results Monday, grabbing 14th in the 200 breast and 19th in the 1650 free.
Sophomore Taylor Lyon brought home 10th in the 200 fly, while junior Kelly McDermott and senior Samantha Rankin secured 12th and 14th respectively in the 200 back.
In the 100 IM, senior Sophie Jackson earned 13th and sophomore Summer Cheng captured 17th.
Over the weekend, freshman Lyndon Kov placed third in the men's 1-meter and 3-meter dives, and senior Jacqueline Samaniego secured seventh in the women's 1-meter dive.
Cal Poly returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 7, to host MPSF rival CSU Bakersfield at Anderson Aquatic Center. The dual starts at noon.
